EMBARQ Logistics: Our Approach to an LTL RFPRoger W. Woody EMBARQ Logistics (EQL), part of a local phone
company that separated from Sprint Nextel in May 2006, executed an RFP
for about $10M in LTL spend. As a new company, EQL felt it important to
ensure those selected to participate knew who we were and how the separation
had impacted our freight. This presentation will highlight what we did
to communicate who we are and what services we needed from our core carriers,
and what our expectations were from putting the business out for bid. Roger W. Woody was recently elected as CSCMP's Board Chair Elect. He is the general manager, transportation logistics for EMBARQ, a 108-year-old company with a new name that separated from Sprint Nextel in May of 2006. The company offers a complete suite of communications services to consumer and business customers in 18 states. In addition, EMBARQ Logistics provides supply chain solutions to its core telecom business and to nonaffiliated telecom customers. Mr. Woody has worked in the logistics and supply chain management professions for over 20 years. Associated with Hallmark Cards, Yellow/Roadway Corporation, Delfour, and Sprint, Woody has managed business development, supply chain and inventory process development improvement, marketing, operations, procurement, and project management and sourcing for third party logistics, transportation, retail, and distribution organizations. Woody also serves on the Kansas State University School
of Management and Business Advisory Council and the Kansas University
Supply Chain Management Business Advisory Council. He has taught supply
chain management classes at the University of Kansas and is a frequent
speaker at various colleges and universities in and around Kansas City.
Woody received his BA degree from Baylor University and his MBA from Keller
Graduate School of Management. He is an active member of CSCMP's Heartland
Roundtable, as well as its first president. Mr. Woody served as a Roundtable
Advisor for several years and as Roundtable Chair on CSCMP's Board of
Directors for four years before assuming the position of Board Vice-Chair
last year.
