Supply Chain Management: The New Language of Leadership

Supply chain management professionals have worked hard to elevate the profession and the value they bring to their organizations. Today, C level executives are much more aware of supply chain management. However, we in the profession have our own language which at times can be confusing, leaving those we are trying to educate and influence in the dark. We need to do a better job of explaining what we do in terms that provide a new level of clarity. Rick will offer some suggestions and examples on how we might accomplish this, and also discuss supply chain trends that CSCMP sees around the world.

Rick D. Blasgen is the president and chief executive officer of CSCMP, serving in the association's Lombard, Illinois, USA headquarters. Mr. Blasgen began his career with Nabisco where he held various logistics positions in Illinois, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. He was appointed senior director, product supply, and later, became vice president of supply chain for Nabisco in 1998. Until mid-2003, Mr. Blasgen led Kraft's supply chain management programs and initiatives. In 2003, he joined ConAgra Foods, Inc. as senior vice president of integrated logistics.

Blasgen received a BA in business administration with an emphasis in finance from Governors State University.
